Brier has compiled a broad spectrum resource book for type and lettering designs, featuring many artists and their use of concepts and compositional elements in their unique and varied designs. He takes you through a visual feast of typeface and graphics from the style of Art Nouveau to the cover of the Rolling Stone! This book is inspiratonal and an excellent example of how to use type successfully with emphasis given to the powerful use of images and lettering by the Graphic Designer.

The Ithaca Tafe Library has some extremely useful magazines dedicated to tips, short-cuts, and THE HOW TO in Graphic Arts. One magazine: "Computer Arts" June 2005 has some great featured artists and step-by-step guides on how to achieve similar compositions using visual effects in conjunction with exciting new and existing fonts and the tools to maniplate them for your own personal design. One artist featured in the Computer Arts June edition 2005 is Richard Kegler and his Typeface - Constructivist - www.p22.com

Kegler is the founding partner of the P22 type foudry beginning in 1994. His background in typography led him to explore the fields of letterpress printing and bookbinding but his passion for type shaped the evolution of P22.




Website: Microsoft Typography is an excellent resource for creating your own text.
The website contains useful Tips on how to develope fonts, information for developers of TrueType and OpenType fonts and the applications that use them. You can access and explore links on subjects such as advanced text rendering, character design standards and TrueType hinting philosophies in these developer-related articles. Find font tools and font portals to assist in that assignment due yesterday!
